What will you be doing in 20 years time? What will Wickhambrook look like? What should the Council and its partners be doing to plan for the future in the rural areas?
From now until early summer 2011 St Edmundsbury Borough Council is asking what should be in a new Rural Vision 2031 document.
The Rural Vision 2031 will cover many different aspects of the rural areas and life in it, including housing, jobs, services and the facilities required in the 21st Century. It will also consider issues of deprivation and social inequality and how the provision of services can be enhanced and developed.
Council officers will be available at an informal drop in session at Wickhambrook Memorial Social Centre on Monday 16 May from 4-7pm for you to talk to us about the issues that the village is facing now and over the next 20 years.
For more information please call Planning Policy and Specialist Services on 01284 757368 or email ruralvision@stedsbc.gov.uk (view leaflet)

This club meets on a Wednesday at the MSC and consists of a group of friends who have got together to play badminton once a week. Although there are currently enough players to make up the group if you would like further information, they can be contacted by going along to the MSC on one of their club nights.
Body Rock Dance was formed in 1991, and has grown in size and strength. Classes are held in Ballet, Modern, Tap and Drama for children from the age of 3 years. Please come along and see what we do, everyone is welcome.
The Members of the Wickhambrook Outdoor Bowls Club play in various Club and League Competitions. The team is a friendly mix of bowlers made up of locals and players from other villages and so everyone is made welcome. Anyone interested can come along for a practice bowl or coaching session where you can just bowl and enjoy yourself - we hope you will enjoy the company so much you want to join us.
We offer a very warm welcome to new members from Wickhambrook and the neighbouring villages. The game is easy to learn and fun to play. Find out more about Wickhambrook Carpet Bowls. You will find yourself among friends, and will enjoy great companionship.
You couldn't ask for a friendlier welcome at our Daycentre. There is currently only a couple of gentlemen and so they would be delighted for new male members to make up their numbers - they are out numbered by the women so come and help them out! Likewise, we need to keep the women numbers up if more men join and so come and join in. The morning goes very quickly and you can have some good company, enjoy a raffle in a nice warm atmosphere. Lunch is included and it is all homemade.
Wickhambrook Football Club has two teams, the First Team which plays in the Cambridgeshire League and The Reserve Team in the Halstead & District Football League - both of which have enjoyed successes. If you would like to know more about the Football Club, are interested in joining either as a supporter, helper or player, then we would be pleased to hear from you. Please visit our page to find out more about the teams and our match results.
The Wickhambrook Horticultural Society was formed in 1889 and is one of the oldest Societies in Wickhambrook. It is a thriving and vibrant Society. It holds regular monthly meetings with interesting speakers covering a wide spectrum of garden related subjects. So why not join us – new members are always welcome!
The Wickhambrook Local History Society meetings are held in the WI Hall on the third Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm. We have around 50 members who enjoy talks, often illustrated by slides, on topics of local and historical interest. We have at least two summer outings each year and a social evening in December. Members also attend events and meetings held by the Suffolk Local History Council to which we are affiliated.
1st Wickhambrook Scout Group currently has a Beaver Colony and Cub Pack, both these groups aim to provide a balanced program of activities that falls within the scouting ethos (community values, teamwork friendship, fun and adventure etc). We are within the Cambridgeshire county and are a Newmarket district group.
If you are an ex-Service man or woman or have an interest in the Services, you may like to know that we have a Branch of the RBL locally: The Wickhambrook and District Branch. Sadly, as the majority of the membership at present is made-up of those who served in the 1939/45 or during the time of the conscription post-war, there is an urgent need for younger members who have served since then. Please find out more about the Royal British Legion.
This club would welcome more members. Snooker can be played most of the day when the MSC is not being used which is currently only on a Thursday during the morning. There are two tables and games are played by putting money into the meter which turns on the lights above the tables. Contact the Memorial Social Centre for more details.
