Wickhambrook Horticultural Society Reports

september 2008

Our garden club meetings began again on the 15th September after our Summer break. Ian Seager gave a talk on “Fruit and Berries Adding Colour to the Garden” illustrated with some lovely and colourful slides. A great deal of excitement was caused by Mr Seager’s projector smoking alarmingly half way through the talk!! Luckily he had a spare projector in his car, so once we had opened the windows (to get rid of the smell of burning) the talk continued. Mr Seager’s talk gave us lots of ideas for our own gardens. Some of the slides were of unusual trees and shrubs, but some of them were common shrubs that you see in all the garden centres – cotoneasters and berberis for example – so a colourful garden can be achieved by everyone.

The Horticultural Society has two meetings in November. The first is on Monday 10th November and is a talk given by Mr Rodney Tibbs on “Gardening, Then and Now”. The second is on Friday 14th November and is our Annual General Meeting, followed by cheese and wine. Both these meetings begin at 7.30 p.m. and are in the W.I. Hall. Hope to see a lot of you there. The business part of the Annual General Meetin g is quickly over, so do come along and support us and let the committee know that we are conducting the Horticultural Society as you want it to be conducted.
