Wickhambrook Horticultural Society Reports

March/april 2009

Our monthly meeting in April was a talk on “Strolling Down a Country Lane” given by Mrs Mary Edwards. Mrs Edwards showed some lovely slides which took us on a gentle walk along the highways and byways of Suffolk, taking in a lot of information about all the different trees, flowers, etc along this walk. These also included lots of different birds which you may be lucky enough to see whilst going for a walk. She was warmly thanked by Stan Bates.

On Monday the 18th May we will be holding our annual Coffee and bring and buy evening. There are usually lots of bargains to be had, so do come along and see what plants you can fill your garden with. This is in the W.I. Hall and begins at 7.30 p.m.

On the 22nd June our speaker is Mr Barrie Stevenson who will talk on “Ferns in a Suffolk Garden”. This is again in the W.I. hall and begins at 7.30 p.m. Members £1 and non-members £2 and everyone is very welcome.

Then on Saturday, 11th July it is Flower Show Day which is held in conjunction with the Wickhambrook Show on the field between 12 noon and 5 o’clock. The Flower Show itself opens to the general public at 2 o’clock and is held in the M.S.C. Entrance is only 50p. There is lots to look round – flower arrangements, flowers, fruit and vegetables, cookery and handicraft exhibits and a splendid display of School Work provided by the pupils of the village school. Do come and have a browse.
