Wickhambrook Horticultural Society Reports

September 2010

After the Summer break our Autumn monthly meetings began on Monday 20th September with a talk entitled “Brush with Fuchsias” given by Alison Jones.  This was a very different talk to our usual ones about various aspects of gardening as Alison Jones declared that she was far from green fingered (she declared that plants just withered and died for her) and because of this she had discovered her real talent - painting all kinds of flowers, but in particular fuchsias.  She had brought along many slides of her paintings which were just beautiful.  Many of these had been exhibited in RHS Exhibitions.  She also brought along many items of different kinds of stationery, all etched with different kinds of flowers and lots of our members bought some of these items for their own use and some for gifts.  A different kind of gardening evening but a very enjoyable one.

On Monday, 25th October, our monthly meeting is a talk entitled “Plants for Winter Interest” given by Peter Jackson of Scotsdales Garden Centre.

On Friday 19th November we have our Annual General Meeting.  This is in the W.I. Hall and begins at 7.30 p.m.  The business part of the evening will be swiftly over I am sure and this is followed by a Cheese and Wine and Members having a chance for a good chat.

Our monthly meeting in November is on Monday 22nd November and is entitled “Garden Garlands”, a talk and demonstration by David Holmes.

If any of these talks appeal please come along and join us.  We are a very friendly Society and new members are always welcome.
