Wickhambrook Horticultural Society Reports

Our October meeting was a talk given by Barry Kaufmann-Wright on his Life as a Wildlife Crime Officer. Barry retired from the Essex police force a few years ago but he continues to be passionate about the care of animals and helps charities voluntarily with his knowledge of the law surrounding abject cruelty and what measures can be taken to prevent it. He had a vast number of slides in his possession - some of which he told us he could not bring along because they would have been so distressing to his audience. Having said that, some of those he did bring along were bad enough and illustrated what a huge crime this is. How some humans can bring about some of the conditions of cruelty he illustrated cannot be believed. This talk was completely different to our usual subjects, but it certainly gave us plenty to think about and was extremely interesting. He was warmly thanked by Stan Bates and answered many questions from our members.

Our AGM this year is on Friday 18th November and as usual we will be having a small cheese and wine get-together after the business has been conducted. This provides a good opportunity for those present to have a good chat which is not always possible at our monthly meetings, particularly for committee members.

Then on Monday 5th December we have our Annual Festive Quiz Evening with the winner receiving The Floral Cup. There are other prizes to be won also. The quiz is only open to members of the Society and is a fun evening, with nibbles and mince pies, etc. so do come along.
