Wickhambrook Horticultural Society Reports

May and June 2012

In May we had our annual Bring and Buy sale and coffee evening. The heavens opened at 7 o'clock and as I left home I did wonder if anyone would bother to turn up. I was proved wrong, thank goodness, and we had a good number of our members present, together with a few visitors who had come along to see what was on offer.

Considering the atrocious weather so far this year, we had quite a number of plants for sale and the majority were sold to new owners.

We also had a successful raffle, so thanks to everyone who came and supported us and I hope that you enjoyed the occasion. We hope to see our visitors again later in the year.

This brings me round to reminding you all how close our Summer Flower Show is now - on the 14th July - and that Schedules are still available from the Shop or from myself and that entries have to be made on the Wednesday evening prior to the Show (11th July) between 6.30 and 8.30 p.m. in the W.I. Hall. Please do not forget to come and have a look round the Flower Show on the Saturday (Show opens at 2 o'clock and admission is only 50p).

There will be lots of exhibits to look around (hopefully!!) and, as always, an exhibition of the work that Wickhambrook School Children have done during the past few months.

Also, in the W.I. Hall there will be delicious home-made goodies to enjoy along with a cup of tea/coffee. Maybe by the 14th July, we may even have some sunshine to enjoy - we can only hope!!

On Thursday 14th June we enjoyed our annual coach trip organized by Diane Clarke. This year our outing was to Houghton Hall in Norfolk. This is a delightful place to visit – lovely gardens and parkland, beautiful house to wander around, and what's more a café which served very enjoyable food. We were extremely lucky with the weather and we all enjoyed an extremely nice day out. Thanks Diane for all your organizing. Our monthly meetings begin again in September and there will be more details of this in the next edition of the Scene. Hope to see lots of you at the Show.
