Wickhambrook Horticultural Society Reports

Our meeting in October was entitled "Deathcaps and Deadmans Fingers" – a talk by Jonathan Revett. This was all about mushrooms and fungi and Mr Revett was an enthralling speaker. He first became fascinated by mushrooms and fungi as young as 10 and his interest has still not wained.

He leads forays in Thetford Forest, gives talks about them and has even been called to hospital twice for advice regarding children who had eaten some sort of wild mushrooms. Both instances were not harmful, but that is not always the case. Many wild mushrooms are completely harmless, some can cause sickness for a day or two and some are actually fatal.

He showed us some lovely slides to illustrate how many different forms of mushrooms and fungi there are – and there are some really colourful ones. The meeting was rather short of members that particular evening which is a great shame because the talk was excellent and he was warmly thanked by Dorothy Lightley.

On Monday 25th November we have our Annual General Meeting with cheese and wine. As usual this will be held in the W.I. Hall and begins at 7.30 p.m. Everyone is very welcome.

Members Information

Our Annual Membership is 5, with meetings costing 1 to members and 2 to non-members. We would love to see some new members and you can be sure of a warm and friendly welcome.

Subscriptions are payable to the Treasurer each January.

Our talks usually last for about an hour and then we have a chat with other members whilst enjoying tea/coffee and biscuits. The talks cover a range of different aspects of gardening and our programme is planned to provide something of interest to each and everyone of us.
