The small playground on Bury Road in the Clopton area has been the responsibility of Havebury Housing. Havebury does not have the expertise within the organisation to check and maintain the play equipment on a regular basis and have suggested that the small fenced area be gifted to the Parish Council.
New equipment, swings, a rocker cum see saw and safety tiling, has been installed and a RoSPA certificate has been issued.
The handover will take place in the near future.
We need someone who lives locally to inspect the area on a regular basis, say once a week, and note if there is anything of concern. If that person is willing to give a verbal report at the Estates Meeting, held on a Tuesday every second month, so much the better. The next meetings are on 10th April and 12th June.
Monthly playground inspections will be carried out by Borough staff and an annual visit will be made by an independent professional. Any volunteers? Please contact the Parish Clerk on 01440 821861 if you are willing to give it a try.

Impressive progress on Fundraising for the Playground.
The money needed to pay for a complete refurbishment of Wickhambrook Playground is £90,000. To date we have raised around £60,000.
The main contributors are:
Havebury Housing £5,000
Suffolk Housing £5,000
The Borough of St Edmundsbury £10,000
Suffolk Regeneration Funding £16,000
Contributions from parishioners past and present £4,000
Parish Council (money put aside for maintenance and repairs of existing playground) £18,000
Total offered £58,000
County Councillor Jane Midwood Locality Funding (promised) £5000
We need to find another £25,000 - £30,000 and other funders are being approached.
This all sounds very encouraging but there is a risk. Most of the above funds are available for 2012 only and if they have not been used by 31st December they could be withdrawn. So it is imperative that we find the extra funds in the near future. Any suggestions or offers of help will be most welcome.
The final figure from the Waitrose 'Community Matters' collection was £315.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Pledging your support on a matched-funding basis, agreeing to make a donation to the value of the aluminium we have recycled after each weigh-in.
If you can’t wait for the weigh-in and would like to make a donation now we would be happy to accept it! Cheques should be made payable to Wickhambrook Parish Council and sent to the Parish Clerk (contact details on the Parish Council page) or simply contact us at cans4cash@wickhambrook.org and we can provide details for online payment.
CANS FOR CASH
We are launching a campaign to save aluminium drinks cans to sell for recycling. We have lots of cans to collect – a typical soft drinks can weighs 12 gm which means over 80 cans to the kg!
Saving and crushing your aluminium drinks cans, and bringing them to a "can collection session".
The time and place of each one will be advertised on the village website, in the "What's On" and on the village notice boards but in the meantime we have a collection point at the Wickhambrook School.
To help us get the most cash for the cans, please ensure that you:
• Only save aluminium cans (if in doubt, try a magnet – it won't stick!)
• Keep the cans dry – wet cans are worth less
• Crush them as flat as you can – more cans, less space
• Don't mix them with other metals – aluminium is worth more but only on its own

We are asking for your support to help raise the £90,000 needed to refurbish the children’s playground in our village.
Our playground has given decades of service to generations of children living here in Wickhambrook and in the surrounding villages and hamlets.
It is now looking very tired, and although the equipment is lovingly maintained, it is old and in need of a complete facelift.
Everything to do in the Village for the young generation. We have excellent facilities and activities available for the children in Wickhambrook.
The Playground and other facilities can be found at the MSC recreation fields.
The Parish Council maintains the children's play area on the recreation ground, where a selection of swings, slides, climbing frames and roundabouts can be found. We also have a facility known as The Teen Project which provides a Skate, BMX and Sport Park.
The ‘all-sports’ area provides an all weather surface with a goal and basketball ring and a tennis practice wall.
As well as ball games, the area can be used by new skaters who want to gain experience before venturing onto the skatepark, or who want to practice skate-dance etc., and for other interests such as remote control car racing.
The skatepark / BMX / Sports Park was officially opened 31st January 2004. Photos of the opening can be found in the Photo Gallery
