The JAM club continues to thrive under the leadership of Sarah Bevan and Jackie Chester admirably assisted by their willing helpers. The JAM club is a wonderful village resource and well worth bringing children along to for fun and informative learning. The theme for each JAM club is reflected two weeks later during the family service at Wickhambrook when the activities undertaken then are explored further in a simple child-friendly service. We also enjoy the great benefit of David Owen accompanying us on the organ and piano – a very gifted musician. And of course refreshments after the service - tea, coffee and biscuits in the Benefice hall. The JAM club did very well with their entry in the Scarecrow competition at the Wickhambrook Carnival this year up from seventh place last year to the bronze medal position this year. Well done them! We will all be working hard during interregnum to make it as short as possible but the whole process will probably take nine months. We had the Section 12 meeting with Bishop Clive and the Archdeacon of Sudbury on 24th July to officially start the process. This was an extremely well attended meeting with excellent representation from all seven churches of the benefice. The discussion touched on many of the burning issues involved in the process of appointing a new rector. Everyone came away from the meeting feeling very positive. The Benefice profile – job description was finalized then and by the time you read this, the job advert will be published in the relevant places in order to attract a new incumbent. The job advert will close in the last week of September with interviews being conducted in October. Updates will be made available in the Scene and on the website as things progress.
Traidcraft Coffee morning and sale of fair traded goods takes place each first Saturday of the month at 10.00am - noon in the Benefice Hall, Wickhambrook. Come along and buy your coffee, tea, cereals, fruit, chocolate and many other goods. Have a coffee or tea with us and socialise. All welcome. [more info]
Fund raising events
The annual Sponsored Bike Ride is happening on 8th September. The event starts at 10.00am and finishes at 6.00pm. Start and finish whenever you like between these times. Visit by bike or on foot (no horses please) as few or as many churches as you wish. It's a great day out for all the family and there are refreshments (tea, biscuits and soft drinks) at all the churches you visit. It's a great opportunity to visit other churches in the area and to see the rich history of our religious buildings. It's also fun for the whole family and even helps to keep you fit. Why not visit all Seven churches of the Benefice? The two churchwardens will be cycling again this year and would be happy for you to sponsor them on this bike ride. To sponsor them please call Paul Bevan on 01440 821313 > further details
