4 (19.06.06) As someone who installs and helps with broadband professionally, intermittent connections are something that I come across all the time. The reader's suggestion that it might be related to the weather is well founded, as this can indeed be the case. What they need to do is make a note of when the connection drops and see if there is any extra noise on their telephone line. It is perfectly possible, however, that the connection woes are coincidentally when the weather is bad (most of May). Other things which the reader can try are: : faulty ADSL filter - try and change with another one : not all telephones (including alarms and Sky) having a filter attached - double-check : faulty telephone - try and unplug everything (apart from the modem) when the broadband is down : faulty modem - there could be a fault with the ADSL modem itself Broadband can be susceptible to many issues, but the Wickhambrook exchange is very up to date. It is unusual for BT not to fix the issue fairly rapidly, but with dwindling resources and fewer trained staff in the broadband area, some people are bound to get a bad service. One way to try and get the problem resolved is to call the accounts department and say you want to stop paying for the service. That might work!
3 (19.06.06) I am having terrible trouble again with my BT Broadband connection. When it rains it keeps disconnecting. I have had no joy with BT at all. They always try to insinuate its a problem with my computer. coupled with the fact that I cannot find anybody at BT to actually speak to that is in this country - yet I always seem to see BT men down holes around the village. My argument is that these junction boxes flood, that our system is antiquated (overhead cables etc) and perhaps its a problem at our exchange. Does anyone else have trouble with their Broadband connection especially around Coltsfoot Green? Thanks. (please reply via the Webmaster who will pass your comments on)
2 (11.08.05) Is it me or is it BT - I am having terrible trouble with the BT Broadband service and getting nowhere complaining to BT. I feel that it is our grotty old exchange - but no-one will admit anything to me and maintain its my computer. I get on line but what happens on quite a few occasions is that the line just goes and my computer redials, its on for a couple of minutes, and off it goes again. I wanted to ask if anyone else in the village was having problems. (please reply via the Webmaster who will pass your comments on)
1(28.09.04) I was surprised to learn that there are many broadband service providers. The BT literature would lead anyone to believe there is only the one (BT). A professional friend his menioned his preference for one called 'Nildram', and suggested that I look at the www.adslguide.org.uk where all the various providers of broadband are critically reviewed and compared for service reliability, helpdesk response, price etc. Well worth a look!
Wickhambrook Parish Council would like to make everyone aware of the following information regarding broadband access

Broadband Facts
Broadband is:
• a fast (up to 10x a typical dial-up connection), permanent, always-on connection to the internet for a fixed cost of about £30 per month (plus, probably, a one off joining fee).
• nothing to do with your phone line, so you and your family can make and receive calls while someone else is using the internet.

Broadband will benefit those who:
• make significant use of the internet
• download or upload large files
• send or receive large e-mail attachments
• need to access a remote network (e.g. a work network while working from home)
• run a web site
• are finding they need a second phone line
• use video or audio conferencing
• use the internet to make phone calls
• play internet games
