After several hiccups and feeling if it
could go wrong it went wrong, we had a fairly successful Week of Events,
which began on Saturday 5th July with the Wickhambrook
Players Youth Section bringing to you Dream On. An original,
musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Nights Dream,
from the pen of writer Malcolm Sircom. It's just a shame that the
performances were not well supported by the village. The show was
well worth watching and all those that did see it enjoyed it.
The Car Treasure Hunt sponsored by
A1 Cars and once again compiled by Ted Trebble and his wife Pauline,
was well supported with 14 cars participating. All those who took
part thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The winners this year were Maggie
Elers and Sue Grainger, in second place was the Wallis family and
in third place was Chris Tollett, Jill and Chris King. The
Night for the Girls was very poorly attended although those
who did attend enjoyed some culinary delights from Pampered Chef,
some pampering at the Virgin Vie stall and we all enjoyed some fun
with the Ann Summers demonstration! Bingo as always was well attended
and run by the Youth Club.
Sports Night saw an enjoyable summer's
evening on the recreation ground playing tennis,
bowls and watching
the kites fly. Quiz Night as
always was well attended and everyone enjoyed answering some tough
and some not quite so tough questions. Which leads us to Saturday
12th Carnival Day - what can I say, once again we were very
lucky and had a successful Carnival afternoon, although I think
that the weather may have helped. Thanks must go to those organisations
who entered into the spirit of carnival and entered a float in the
procession, what happened to the rest of the organisations? Congratulations
to the winners Wickhambrook
Primary School with 'Cats'. This year we decided to
do the judging slightly different and asked you the public which
float you thought deserved to win. There was a good turn out of
car boots, and a number of stalls and sideshows. Although disappointing
that more local organisations do not feel that they can run a stall.
The five-a-side football
proves to be a great attraction and this year the winners of the
Alf Hicks Shield
were Hundon who beat Haverhill Bull who went through to the final
after beating Wickhambrook in the semi-finals after penalties.
A special thank you to the few people who turned up on the Friday
evening before to set-up, and again on Saturday morning, we don't
feel we have to mention names, they will know who they are.
Although we had a successful week of events and Carnival day, it
does not just happen, it takes months of preparation and unfortunately
by only a few. You could say, nobody asked me, well maybe not personally,
but our pleas for help went out in the Scene
and What's On.
So please, if there is anyone interested in organising, helping
or what ever for next year's Carnival and Week of Events please
contact any member of the MSC
committee. Planning starts in February.
