I refer to the Rural Areas Community Initiatives Fund grant scheme which has now been in operation for just over a year. The Fund has been designed by St Edmundsbury Borough Council to encourage the delivery of locally important capital projects, ranging from minor works in village halls and community meeting places to small environmental enhancements, such as tree planting schemes.

The Council has committed £200,000 covering a four year period to assist suitable rural community projects within the Borough. The maximum award for a capital scheme is £5,000 and the minimum award is £500. Each scheme should also include other sources of funding.
The grant scheme is open to properly constituted groups and organisations, including Parish Councils. The decision-making process is designed to be quick and stream-lined and must have the support of the local Borough Councillor. Retrospective awards will not be accepted.
I would be grateful if you will draw the attention of local groups and organisations (including social, community, environmental, leisure and sports organisations) and your Parish Council to the availability of this exciting grant scheme.
