Rural Areas Community Initiatives Grant Scheme
I refer to the Rural Areas Community Initiatives Fund grant scheme which has now been in operation for just over a year.  The Fund has been designed by St Edmundsbury Borough Council to encourage the delivery of locally important capital projects, ranging from minor works in village halls and community meeting places to small environmental enhancements, such as tree planting schemes.

Details of the grant scheme are provided on the attached guidance notes, along with a simplified 2-page project application form and the response form for your Borough Councillor to sign.  These documents can also be viewed on the Borough Council's website by using the following links

The following links on the Council's Website are also of relevance:

The Council has committed £200,000 covering a four year period to assist suitable rural community projects within the Borough.  The maximum award for a capital scheme is £5,000 and the minimum award is £500.  Each scheme should also include other sources of funding.

The grant scheme is open to properly constituted groups and organisations, including Parish Councils. The decision-making process is designed to be quick and stream-lined and must have the support of the local Borough Councillor.  Retrospective awards will not be accepted.

I would be grateful if you will draw the attention of local groups and organisations (including social, community, environmental, leisure and sports organisations) and your Parish Council to the availability of this exciting grant scheme.  I have also included a Funding Sources Guide as the Borough Council expects schemes to make use of match funding opportunities.  The Guide features a wide range of grants including the Suffolk County Councillor's Locality Budget, Suffolk Rural Services Scheme, Havebury Community Investment Fund and Awards for All.

For further details of these and many other sources of funding please contact the Economic Development Unit on 01284 757109 or email richard.livall@stedsbc.gov.uk .
