Wickhambrook Village Sign
this short article was printed at the request of the local Police

On 3rd June at about 6.30pm a gun was fired at a bus as it drove up Cemetery Road. The missile narrowly missed a teenage girl passenger.

It beggars belief that this could happen in Wickhambrook. With the weapon aimed a fraction to one side or the other the girl could have been facially scarred for life, possibly even blinded. Criminal damage to the cemetery and village hall can be described as mindless vandalism but this incident takes us into new depths of criminal stupidity. We have been asked to help the police to stop this idiot before he (she?) wrecks or destroys someone's life. The police are holding some evidence, but beyond that they have asked that no other information should be made public at this time while they are seeking the following information from the village community. If you know of anyone in Wickhambrook who owns an air rifle, air gun or BB gun, please give the information to P.C. McKenna. Just a name or address will suffice. His office number is 01787 278098. P.C. McKenna's assurance is that all information will be treated in absolute confidence. Anonymous information and messages will be as valuable as any other.

P.C. McKenna is the local Community Police Officer based at the Clare Police Office. He frequently attends Parish Council meetings to report on local police matters and is particularly concerned to reduce the crime which is degrading the quality of village life.
