Cllr. Bevan attended for this item on behalf of the
Parochial Church Council.
|
|
11.1 Repair of gravestone. This had been referred from the
Full Council meeting. An unstable gravestone had been identified
as in need of repair. The PCC had referred the matter to the
Parish Council as being responsible for the maintenance of the
closed churchyard. No descendants of the deceased were known.
Temporary barriers had been erected around the grave.
The Clerk reported that he had obtained a quote of £50
plus VAT for repair.
He then suggested that a policy needed to be established for
dealing with gravestones in the churchyard and the cemetery
– whether to repair or lay down. It was agreed that this
would require consideration by the full Parish Council.
|
Clerk |
The Clerk reported that he had been unable to confirm that
the Parish Council had accepted responsibility for the closed
churchyard and this had implications beyond the question of
grave maintenance. |
Clerk/PB |
EC90 |
|
| P. Bayman suggested that responsibility for the old cemetery
and chapel might also need confirming. |
Clerk/PB |
Resolved that the gravestone be laid down for safety while
the questions of responsibility is investigated and a repair
policy established.
Cllr. Bevan agreed to arrange for the laying down to preserve
public safety. |
