2004 ended with a very enjoyable night out for members
and friends at the Bell in Clare. Noise levels in the dining room
were so high that staff were able to switch off the background music!
2005 has got off to a great start with a meeting entitled ‘Wickhambrook
- Past, Present and Future’. John Fuller, whose family has
connections in the village which go back to 1584, gave us an amusing
and informative account of some of his relations, including Great
Uncle Clem who was manager of the bank which opened for half a day
each week, father Clem who made his son learn and recite the names
of all our greens and William who kept the Mill at the top of Fuller’s
Hill. Other members of the family lived at Hole Farm and Home Farm
and John had some lovely photographs and paintings of these places.
Next it was the turn of Dorothy Anderson , the History Recorder,
to tell a little of what it means to be the eyes and ears of the
changing village. As well as compiling an annual report of changes
such as new houses, she collects posters, tickets and programmes
which will eventually be lodged at the Record Office in Bury St
Edmunds. Dorothy is the person to contact if you have any records
of clubs and societies which might be of interest to future generations.
Maria Sumner brought us bang up to date with a look at the award-
winning Wickhambrook website. She talked about how she set it up,
how it is updated and how to get involved. She showed the Crime
pages, the Message Board and some Club pages and urged eveyone to
have a go, even if they need their grandchildren to show the way!
