Sixty- two members and friends enjoyed a convivial evening at The Plough in Hundon in December.
At the January meeting, a talk on RAF Chedburgh by Jock Whitehouse, we were joined by eighteen visitors, which brought attendance figures up to sixty-nine. This was an excellent start to the new year in every way. Jock’s presentation included extracts from his book, slides of planes, crews, maps and re-unions and as older members relived their youth, younger ones could only marvel at the daring and heroism of the men of 214 Squadron who flew Lancasters and Stirlings from Chedburgh during World War II.. It was wonderful to have two of the men who served there at the meeting. An association was formed in 1988 and thuis ia an excellent way for everyone to keep in touch. Jock had brought some interesting memorabilia to look at and after many questions, reminiscences and discussions he was warmly thanked by the Chairman, Percy Nunn.
The next meeting is on Tuesday 20th February at 7.30pm in the WI Hall, when Clive Paine will talk on Prince Duleep Singh of the Punjab -cricketer and friend of Queen Victoria - who lived at Elveden Hall.
