The speaker at the March meeting was Ewan Allan,
a member of the Chapter of St Edmudsbury Cathedral, who gave a
fascinating talk on the building of the new tower. If you ever
looked up at the scaffolding and sheeting while the work was in
progress and wondered what was going on, this was the perfect way
to see the masons at work. The slides of stone cutting and the
different ways of putting them together was a tribute to the men
who worked by hand on this project where each stone was cut to
a template. Everyone enjoyed seeing the beautiful work in close-up,
thanks to the excellent slides. Mr. Allan answered many questions
with patience and good humour and was thanked by the chairman,
Percy Nunn.
The next meeting is the AGM on Tuesday 18th April at the earlier
time of 7pm. This will be followed by a talk by Maureen Long on
Village Signs. Nominations for the committee may be made to the
Secretary.
Names will be taken at the AGM for the( Members only) 20th Anniversary
Meeting in May. |
