Ashley Cooper made a welcome return visit to the History Society at the March meeting. Many members had already been to the Roman Villa found 60 years ago on his farm at Gestingthorpe and his talk 'The Essex/Suffolk Border in Roman Times' was a follow-up.
His slides of paintings showing how the Villa might have looked during the years of Roman occupation included the flora and fauna of the time. Chairman, Percy Nunn, in thanking him said recent research suggested that Wickhambrook had seen Roman influence. If any member would like a repeat visit to the Villa please tell Gillian.
April's meeting would be the AGM starting at 7pm. Next year's programmes were ready and members were reminded that subscriptions would be £8. The speaker will be Mike Petty his subject, 'The Great Flood 1947'
