At the AGM of the History Society, the committee
and office- bearers were re-elected unanimously to serve for another
year. The Chairman, Percy Nunn, the Events ‘ Secretary Gillian
Cooper and the Treasurer, Pam Miller all reported on a successful
year, with good speakers and interesting outings. As a result of
the recent Promotinal Evening for Clubs and Societies in the MSC,
several new members had signed up for the coming year.
The speaker for the evening was Stuart Bowell who gave a very entertaining
talk with slides on the History of Advertising. From the earliest
forms of advertising, via the successful campaigns of Colman’s
Mustard and Guinness, to the early TV slogans, Stuart showed how
a successful brand makes its mark, and how we are manipulated by
clever ideas.
The next meeting is an outing, to Little Bradley
Church, on WEDNESDAY 18th May.
There is no need to book for this. Please meet at the MSC car-park
at 5.40pm to arrive at Little Bradley for 6pm. Cost of the outing
is £2.50, to be paid on the night.
