April 2008 News

At the AGM of the Local History Society, the Chairman, Treasurer and Events’ Secretary all reported on a successful year with excellent speakers, outings and a membership of 68.

The Office -bearers and Committee were re-elected to serve for another year, with the exception of Gladys Alexander who wished to step down after more than 20 years on the Committee. She was thanked by the Chairman and presented with a bouquet.

The Speaker for the evening was Robert Borridge who gave a fascinating talk on Lord Nelson, from his early days in Norfolk, to his dalliance with Emma Hamilton and his naval battles which led him to become a great hero. Without the help of slides, Powerpoint or any other visual aids, Mr Borridge kept his audience spellbound with his fervour and enthusiasm.

The next meeting is on Tuesday 20th May at 7.30pm in the WI Hall when Tony Redman will talk on the History of Sanitation.

Meetings are held in the WI Hall at 7.30pm. Information is avaliable from Dorothy(01440 820376) and Gillian (01440 820052).
