September 2004 News

Chairman Percy Nunn welcomed the members after a summer break and thanked them for their enthusiasm and support on the summer outings to Kentwell Hall and the churches of Wordwell and Icklingham.

He paid tribute to David and Catherine Jones who had worked hard for the Society as Treasurer and Committee member and wished them well in their new life in Norfolk. It is hoped that they will attend the Christmas celebration at The Bell in Clare as our guests.

The post of Treasurer will be filled by Pam Miller who responded to our plea for help. We are still looking for a committee member - please let the secretary know if you can help.

The speaker for the evening was Roger Gillingham of Pakenham Mill, who spoke about this historic building with a unique blend of facts, jokes and anecdotes - and even gave us a song!

After the coffee break he showed some slides and then presented us with a bag of flour.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 19th October at 7.30 in the WI Hall when Edward Martin of the Archaeology unit in Bury will talk on Historic Landscape. New members are always welcome.Further information may be obtained from Gillian (820052) or Dorothy(820376).
