Our January meeting was held recently. Mrs Sylvia
Allworthy from
Burrough Green came along to tell us the story of how her garden
- which
we visited last year - evolved. About two dozen of us had been to
her
garden and I, for one, was amazed when she said that she had only
been
gardening there for eight years - when her and her husband moved
from
Devon. She had brought along various containers with lots of varieties
of winter foliage, colour and perfume, all of them from her garden.
Mrs
Allworthy obviously loves her garden with a passion, and her passion
filtered through to her audience and gave us all lots of ideas
and
inspiration for things that we could do in our own gardens. She advised
us to forget particular "fashions" in gardening, and to concentrate
on
plants that we ourselves love. Everybody's garden is their own, to
love
and nurture, and that should be born in mind when planting a garden.
She was warmly thanked by Stan Bates for a most enjoyable and
interesting talk.
Jackie Fieldsend gave out details of two coach trips being planned
in
the Spring and Summer - one to Wisley on the 10th May and one to
Sandringham Flower Show on the 26th July. Names and more information
from Jackie on 01440 820108.
Jackie also asked members to think about the coming Flower Show in
July. Our garden competion only had four entries last year and this
year we are hoping to get lots more, so that it makes it worthwhile
to
ask a Judge to come and judge the particular gardens. It is only
20p to
enter your garden, so hopefully we will get a lot more support this
year.
February's meeting is on Monday 27th, in the W.I. Hall and beginning
at
7.30 p.m. Mr Peter Fisk is going to talk about "Vegetables", so
please
come along and enjoy. New members are always welcome.
