News - May 2007

At the beginning of May we had our annual bring and buy evening. This was very successful and we raised approximately £80 with the sale of plants and the raffle. Thanks to everyone who donated plants and helped during the evening.

Our first evening visit during May was to Sir John and Lady Mowbray's beautiful garden at Glemsford. About twenty of our members were greeted warmly by Sir and Lady Mowbray who escorted us and answered many of our questions. This garden is obviously well loved and tended and not only that but we were blessed with a lovely warm evening as well. What can be nicer than walking around a beautiful English garden on a beautiful, warm evening?

Our Summer Flower Show is fast approaching and FREE schedules are still available from Jackie Fieldsend at 8 Croft Close, Wickhambrook or from the village shop. Please support this village event. We need people to make entries to all the different classes, or we cannot put on a Show. The different classes include flowers and vegetables, flower arranging, fruit and plants, cookery and handicrafts and also children's sections as well. For people wishing to enter their gardens for the two cups available - The Giffords Cup for the "Best Cottage Garden" and the William and Nancy King Cup for the "Best Kept Flower Garden" this is just a reminder that entries have to be made by Saturday, 30th June to Mrs Jean Cook. Judging will be during the evening of Monday 2nd July. Gardens from villages adjoining Wickhambrook may be entered in this category and it only costs 20p - so go on, have a go and help keep wonderful village traditions like this alive.

On the Saturday, 28th July there is a coach trip to Capel Manor Gardens. This leaves Wickhambrook at 9 o'clock and leaves Capel Manor at 5 o'clock. There are still plenty of seats available and these can
be booked through Jackie Fieldsend (01440 820108). The inclusive price for the trip will be around £16. Unfortunately the planned trip in June to Glen Chantry Gardens and Hyde Hall Gardens had to be cancelled due to lack of support, so hopefully this will not be the case with the Capel Manor outing.
