On the evening of Friday, 8th June, about two dozen members of the Horticultural Society enjoyed a very pleasant evening at Giffords Hall, Wickhambrook, the home of the President of the Society, Lady Diana. For the whole of the morning and into the afternoon the rain bucketed down and at that stage it seemed unlikely that we would be walking around the garden later in the day. However, lo and behold, the rain stopped and, although it was not a sunny evening, it was dry and pleasantly warm. The gardens are delightful and the views from Giffords are wonderful. Lady Diana and Sir David provided wine for all of us after we had walked around the garden. Thanks were given to Sir and Lady Diana for making us so welcome and for sharing their garden with us.
Nicki Anderson, a local garden designer was our speaker for our June meeting. Part of Nicki’s extensive training was at the Chelsea Physic Garden and her interesting talk allowed us to learn a little of what is involved with designing gardens, both small and large. She brought along with her plans and photographs of two gardens she had been involved in, one with a budget of £5000 and the other a budget of £100,000.
Nicki obviously loved her work and enthralled the listeners who had many questions to ask and she was warmly thanked and applauded.
