Our monthly October meeting was a talk by Mr Sharman on “Rare plants – how and why plants are and become rare; the work of the NCCPG.”  Mr Sharman was an able and interesting speaker.  He has been interested in plants ever since he was 4 years of age and he is now a knowledgeable gardener of repute.  Mr Sharman now helps to run Monksilver Nursery at Cottenham, Cambridge and is obviously just as fond of plants now as he was when he was 4.  He explained that even now new, rare plants are found and it is important that these are documented and successfully propagated so that they do not become extinct.  He brought some lovely slides of rare plants, and some not so rare, and also plants for sale from his Nursery and quite a few of our members went home with new plants to grow in their own gardens.  He was warmly thanked by Stan Bates.

Our AGM is on Friday, 17th November in the W.I. Hall beginning at 7.30 p.m.  We would love to see some new faces, so if you are at all interested in anything to do with gardening, or just love gardens in general, please come along and join our Society.  The annual fee is £3, with monthly meetings costing £1 for members and £2 for non-members.  As well as our monthly meetings, we have outings during the Summer months, both to local gardens and gardens further afield.  This year in the Summer we visited Wisley Gardens and also the Sandringham Flower Show and both these coach trips were much enjoyed.  The business part of the evening only takes about half an hour and then we have a social chat with a glass of wine and a nibble of cheese.  We are still looking for a new Treasurer to replace Steve Coe, who has been Treasurer for seven years now.  Steve is staying on the Committee and is very willing to help the new Treasurer to get to know the job.  If you can help us or are interested in becoming our Treasurer, please give Jackie a ring on 01440 820108.

Our November meeting is on the following Monday, 20th November, same time and place.  This will be a talk and demonstration on Christmas Flower Arrangements by Mrs Barbara Webb.  Hope to see you at one or both of the above.
