Apart from members of the committee, only four members attended the AGM on Friday 17th November. There had been torrential rain in the early evening and some of the roads around were flooded, so this may have been the reason. However, the business of the evening was dealt with and the members and committee then enjoyed a very social evening with cheese and wine. All the members of the committee had agreed to continue, but our Treasurer (after seven years) stood down. Steve Coe gave notice of his decision to resign at the last AGM and, despite threatening, pleading, and begging, no one has agreed to do the Treasurer’s very important job. The committee decided to soldier on for the next 12 months sharing the work between them, but members at the AGM and at our next monthly meeting were informed that if no one could be found to stand as Treasurer by the AGM next November, then the Society would have no alternative but to close.
Our November monthly meeting was a demonstration on Christmas Flower Arranging given by Mrs Barbara Webb and many visitors came to watch this demonstration. A raffle was held for the three arrangements Barbara made and these were won by Maxine Day, Jean Cook and Ann Skinner-Smith. Hopefully, some of the ladies who came to enjoy this evening will come along and join our Horticultural Society. We do have some really interesting speakers and most of them, if not all, are really well worth attending. Our annual membership fee is only £3, with our monthly meetings only costing £1 for members and £2 for non-members. So do really come along and join us, you will be very welcome and as I have said before we are a very friendly Society.
On the 4th December we held our Grand Quiz Evening, with the winner being awarded the Flora Cup.
Our January monthly meeting is on the 22nd and is entitled “Garden Worthy: Decorative plants with added value” by Mr Andrew Jackson from Withersfield.
And then on the 26th February we have a talk by Mr Peter Beale of Sturmer on “Light among the Trees, British Wildlife and Conservation”. Both these meetings are in the W.I. Hall and begin at 7.30 p.m.
Hope to see you there.
