On Monday, 12th December, we held our Annual Quiz.
Alex had prepared the questions for us this year and was our quiz-master.
Two of our members shared the highest number of points, so the cup-winner
had to be decided by an additional question, which was answered
correctly by Daphne Bates, who was presented with the Quiz Cup.
Daphne also chose a plant from the selection of prizes. The runner
up was Joan Jones, followed by Simon Plumpton and Jean Coe. There
were also plants as prizes for the three of them.
The ladies on the committee had brought along some mince pies,
so the quiz was followed by a cup of tea/coffee and mince pies and
biscuits.
This is our last meeting of 2005 and we begin the New Year with
a talk by Sylvia Allworthy on “My Garden at Burrough Green”.
The Society visited this garden during the summer and enjoyed a
lovely evening there.
We are making an extra effort to attract new members to our Society
during 2006. Annual membership of the Society is £3, with
meetings costing £1 or £2 for non-members. Being a member
of the Society entitles members to a 10% discount at Marlows, Bury
St Edmunds on Thursday on production of their membership card. This
sum includes tea/coffee and biscuits and our monthly talks are usually
both interesting and informative. Our speakers are always willing
to answer members’ questions and give advice.
As well as our monthly meetings, we have coach outings during the
year and also evening visits to fairly local gardens which are not
normally opened to the general public.
So why not make joining our Society one of your New Year Resolutions.
Being a member gets you out of the house, and away from the telly.
We always give our new members a warm welcome and would be very
pleased to see you. If you want any further information please give
Jackie a ring on 01440 820108.
