On the 29th March we had an interesting
talk entitled 'Greenhouse Gardening' by Mr John Hewson. Mr Hewson
was very informative and even those of us who had had greenhouses
for many years learnt something.
At our meeting on Monday 25th April Mrs Anne Newman brought slides
of 'Some Suffolk Gardens'. Some of them had been visited by some of
our members but others were new to all of us and these provided us
with names of new gardens to visit. Our May meeting was a bring and
buy coffee evening which was well supported and enjoyed by all. Most
of us went home with bags of plants. David, our Chairman, is a very
good auctioneer - perhaps he missed his real vocation.
Our Summer Flower Show is nearly here - 10th July - but there is still
time for you to pick up a free schedule and put in an entry, either
flower arranging, handicraft or cookery or plants, flowers or vegetables.
There is also a children's section. Each entry is only 5p, so please
have a go. Without the entries we cannot put on a Flower Show and
the more entries there are the better the hall looks when the Show
is open in the afternoon. The Schedules are available from committee
members or from the shop. Please remember that entries have to be
registered on the Wednesday evening prior to the Flower Show - that
is on the 7th July in the WI Hall between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
Jackie Fieldsend Success
at the Suffolk Show
Wickhambrook School once again received recognition at the Suffolk
Show by winning second prize in a painting competition. The reception
class teacher, Trish Lewis-Evans, told the Scene that the subject
of the painting had to be 'Animals You Would See at the Show' and
the children chose to do one of Hens and their Chicks. The picture
exhibited was a collage created from paintings contributed by all
the children so was a joint effort. The children were all from the
reception class and were aged five to six years old.
Unfortunately they were unable to bring the prize painting home
to exhibit at the carnival, but the £250 prize money they
did bring home I'm sure more than made up for it. This is not the
first time the School has distinguished itself at the show, they
also had a second and third prize last year.
