| The Flower Show this year was held on the
9th July in the MSC. Considering that the weather had been so topsy
turvey this past season, we had some very good entries in all of the
different classes. For the week before the Show the wind had been
blowing a gale, which must have played havac with hanging baskets
and roses, etc. but nevertheless when you entered the hall you were
met with a very colourful sight. There were some lovely flower arrangements
and as well as the flowers and vegetables, there were lots of entries
in the handicraft and cookery classes also. As usual, there was an
excellent display put on by the pupils of Wickhambrook School and
many thanks are sent to their teachers and Head Mistress for putting
this display togeher. There was a steady stream of people looking
round the Show all afternoon and hopefully some of them will be inspired
to make an entry or entries themselves come next years Show.
The
President of the Society, Lady Diana Rowland, presented the Cups,

thanks again.
On the 21st July about twenty of our members visited the garden
of Mr and Mrs Allworthy at Burrough Green. We were very lucky with
the weather as it was an extremely pleasant evening. The garden
was about 2 acres in area with trees, shrubs, a large pond, fruit
and vegetable plots and a children's garden. It was a beautiful
garden with lots to see and explore and afterwards we had a cup
of tea/coffee and a delicious slice of home made cakes. Altogether
a very pleasant evening!
Events : Our next meeting is on the
19th September at 7.30 in the W.I. Hall,
as usual, and the talk is entitled "Looking after Fruit Trees".
Look forward to seeing you there.
Everyone is welcome to the above meetings,
so hopefully we'll see you there
