Other matches are played against
Barrow, Kirtling, Ousden and Withersfield. Because the Clubs
are in a close proximity, there is a strong but friendly local
rivalry.
May and June 2007 Report
The Club is coming to the end of another enjoyable League season. Judged on the results so far - at the time of writing this report, there were still four more matches to play - the team has performed as well, if not better, than in any previous season.
The Team has played with increasing confidence, especially in home games, and has beaten opposing teams, which, on previous form, looked stronger than us. Whatever position the Team occupies at the end of the League season, it has been a great pleasure to meet up and play with and to play against old friends from the clubs. Great credit is due to Club Captain John Pateman who has organised the Team and encouraged them to perform at their best. There must also be a special vote of thanks to the ladies for providing the post-match refreshments, whose efforts are warmly welcomed by both home and visiting players.
Talking of warmth, the temperature in the Memorial Hall has become notorious among visiting players and spectators. We have the sad sight of players wearing overcoats during matches. Despite frequent criticism of the totally inadequate heating system, there appears to be no effort to remedy the situation. Maybe the Hall Management Committee would like to spend two hours on a bitterly cold March evening sitting in the Hall.
Apart from the League matches, the Club has continued to enjoy sessions on Tuesday evenings and Thursday afternoons. There is usually a regular gathering of loyal stalwarts who participate in two hours of fun and light-hearted banter, with a cup of tea and a biscuit at half-time. |
