By supporting the Poppy Appeal you can help the Royal British Legion give assistance to individuals who are ex-service. Anyone who wishes to join would be made most welcome
Royal British Legion logo If you are an ex-Service man or woman or have an interest in the Services, you may like to know that we have a Branch of the RBL locally: The Wickhambrook and District Branch. The District covers Wickhambrook, Cowlinge, Denston and Stradishall.

It may not generally be known that the RBL is frequently able to give assistance to individuals who are ex-Service. In 2002, there were over 900 ex-Service people in Suffolk who needed some sort of help. And the total amount of Grants awarded in the County by the RBL came to over £175,000. It is, of course, the money raised by the poppy appeal which enables such help to be given.

Sadly, as the majority of the membership at present is made-up of those who served in the 1939/45 or during the time of the conscription post-war, there is an urgent need for younger members who have served since then. Since July 2003 we have had several new members and so the Branch is growing in numbers but more would be most welcome.

Our local Branch is one of the four within 'A' Group of the Branches in Suffolk.

'A' Group's other Branches are
Haverhill &Thurlow
Kedington & District
Cavendish
There is a larger Branch at Bury St Edmunds with an RBL Club

The annual membership subscription is £10, and each member receives through the post a copy of the RBL 'Legion magazine', which is published every second month.

The Committee of our local Branches meets at 7pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the home of Lt. Col. Harry Mainwarring, in Denston. members of the Branch are welcome to attend any of these meetings, but it would be helpful to let him know in advance so that there will be sufficient cups of tea on arrival!

Should you be interested in joining our local Branch, whether ex-Service or not, please contact the Branch's Hon. Secretary who lives in Wickhambrook.
