As only one meeting has been held since
the last issue of this magazine, this item will be shorter than my
normal effort hopefully!
First of all lets start with the Accessible Toilet. This project is
now complete and the afore mentioned facility should now be in use.
So perhaps I can stop boring you with a mention of it in every report
I produce. Our thanks go to all those involved in the project especially
Jim Field for all his hard work in the organising of various contractors.
Thanks Jim.
The refurbishment of the main hall floor which in my last report was
a project about to take place in the near future may now somewhat
be delayed to the Trustees having a further think on the best way
to proceed. It is however hoped that the Badminton Court lines can
be repainted shortly. A final decision should be made at the July
meeting. A trolley for moving the chairs in the hall has now been
purchased and is available to persons hiring the premises.
Some of the trees which were suggested as dangerous in the last issue
of the Scene have now been attended to, branches removed and now declared
safe.
Once against the heating as mentioned and further suggestions to improve
insulation were discussed with the possibility of Council Grants being
available are to be investigated. At the end of the day a vast improvement
is required before the next winter.
On the financial front funds in hand are at a satisfactory level in
spite of some major expenses taking place. Whilst talking of money,
due to the demise of the Petanque Club the former members very generously
decided to donate £450 from their remaining finances to the
Memorial Social Centre. On behalf of the Trustees I would like to
express our sincere thanks for this money. Thank you.
Items to take place in the near future are the refurbishing of the
toilets and attention to the showers. Improved ventilation in the
kitchen and installation of a storage cupboard. The question of the
annual review of charges was raised, as the normal rise should take
place in June. It was decided a rise of five and a half per cent would
be required. To be applied to new bookings from 1st June 2004.
Finally to finish with some good news. It was reported that a boy
kicked a ball through a glass door shattering the glass and showering
the persons in the hall with the glass fragments. Fortunately there
were no injuries. The boy responsible admitted breaking the glass
and his parents were notified. They at once agreed to replace the
glass and cover any costs. The job was carried out very quickly and
the door made good. It was a very responsible act and our thanks go
to all concerned for their prompt resolution of the problem. Thank
you.
Can I finish by reminding you that the Carnival
and Week of Events will be taking place very soon after
you receive this edition of the Scene. Please support as many of these
events as you can and if you are able to help in any way please contact
any Trustee or myself. Thanks.
