The 2004 AGM will
be held in the Pavilion on Monday 6th September
Everyone, whether or not a member of any village club or organisation,
is invited to come to this annual meeting and contribute their ideas
and opinions on the running of our village hall. This is the once-a-year
opportunity when anyone and everyone can come along and have their
say. No subject is barred and all points raised will be welcomed and
noted for the agenda of the first trustees meeting which will be on
Monday 13th September. In particular could all clubs please send their
2004/2005 Representative to the AGM.
Once again only one meeting has been held since the last edition of
the Scene. The Management meeting not taking place due to lack of
members able to attend. Perhaps a rethink on the amount and structure
of future meetings might be something to be discussed at the next
Annual General Meeting which takes place on Monday 6th September at
7.30pm. Please all readers try to attend this meeting it is vitally
important that the present Trustees hear the views of as many memebrs
of the village as possible. Your help is needed to keep the Memorial
Social Centre running and available when you want to use it. So if
you can spare an hour or so come along to the Pavilion on the above
date.
To carry on the same theme. It was announced at the last meeting that
our Treasurer for the last few years, Steve Bye, is resigning at the
Annual General Meeting. We shall miss Steve who has been an excellent
treasurer. On behalf of the Trustees I would like to thank him very
much for his hard work over the years and wish him well with both
his business and voluntary work. Thank you very much Steve. So the
Trustees need a new Treasurer. Can you help? It is of course a voluntary
job and involves at the moment attending a meeting on the first Monday
of each month at the Memorial Social Centre. No special expertise
is required and Steve will train the new Treasurer. So if you can
help please contact any member of the Trustees. please help if you
can.
On to other matters - The lines of the Badminton Court have been repainted
thanks to Roger and Gladys Alexander for carrying out the job. It
was also decided the floor in the main hall should be cleaned and
resealed hopefully in August!
The heating system was again discussed and it was decided to contact
the contractors who provided the original specification to sort it
out. Something must be done before the winter months, I am sure you
agree the main hall, in particular, is far from being comfortably
warm.
After some discussion it was decided not to change the fire door in
the main hall at present. It is hoped to provide a ventilation unit
to fit in the kitchen in the near future. Also a storage cupboard
is to be constructed in the kitchen in which brooms and floor cleaning
materials can be kept. Dave Orange to carry out this work very soon.
Finance. Once more funds in hand are in a satisfactory state, in spite
of large expenditure on the Accessible Toilet (now finished and in
use), and other improvements to aid the Disabled.
Carnival and Week
of Events - Once again a marvellous effort by the three
young people mainly responsible for the organisation. Namely Helain
Addison, Joanne Elers and Richard Edwards. May I pass on the thanks
of the Trustees to the above for a good job well done. Thanks again.
Perhaps for next years events more help can be arranged. Maybe all
the village organisations would be able to lend a hand under the guidance
of the carnival committee?
The unfortunate situation the Outdoor Bowls
Club finds itself in was discussed. It seems that the
membership is declining for various reasons. The sad death of David
Alexander being a great loss to the Club. New members are needed urgently.
So if any reader is interested contact me or any Trustee and you will
be put in touch with the Club. Many thanks.
Finally, can I return you to the first item the Annual General Meeting
of the Trustees of the Memorial Social Centre. As mentioned this will
be held on Monday 6th September at 7.30pm in the Pavilion. Please
come along if you can. You do not have to belong to any organisation
to attend it is open to everyone. Come along and tell us what you
would like to happen to your village hall I think it is one of the
best in the country. Come along and let us know what you think.
