Report November and December 2004
The Annual General Meeting of the Memorial Social Centre was held on Monday 6th September. The turn out was not very encouraging although most organisations were represented, members of the public were conspicuous by their absence.

The meeting began with the reading of the names of the Fallen in the two World Wars whilst members stood around the Memorial plaque in the main hall. A short silence was then observed in their memory. With the absence of the Chairman the Vice Chairman took the meeting and reported on the events during the past twelve months. He felt the facilities were being reasonably well used by the various groups in the village, but the lack of dances, socials etc was rather worrying. He was pleased to announce the completion of the Accessible Toilet and thanked all the local tradesmen for their hard work during the year.

He also reported the departure of our Treasurer and both the Secretaries expressing the Trustees thanks to them all.

The financial situation was then examined. It appears that there was a loss over the year due to extra expenditure on projects including the Accessible Toilet. However after adjustments for these items a reasonable profit has been made and funds in hand remain satisfactory. Although in the coming year money will have to be spent on the kitchen, bar area and toilets to enable the Entertainments Licence, without which we cannot operate, to be obtained. In addition the decoration of the exterior will have to be undertaken very soon. A project that has been delayed due to lack of funding. Thanks were expressed to the organisers of the Supporters Association, which with the Carnival and Social Bars greatly assisted the funding of the Hall and Recreation Ground.

The Trustees Committee for the coming year was then elected together with the management of the sub committee. The officers for the coming year were then elected - Jeff Claydon remaining as Chairman, Jim Field as Vice Chairman, but the posts of Secretary and Treasurer have still to be filled. The present holders agreed to carry on until volunteers could be found. The Annual General Meeting was then closed. At the Trustees meeting on the following Monday the future of the Memorial Social Centre was discussed with the management crisis top of the agenda. Proposals agreed were for the amount of meetings to be reduced, less paperwork for the new Treasurer, more discretion to make decisions to the sub committee. The A.G.M. to be moved to November on the Monday nearest to Remembrance Sunday. All meetings to finish at 9.30pm.

You will find another article in this Scene requesting your help. Please read it. If you can do anything at all to assist in the running of the Memorial Social Centre complex, please get in touch. We have one of the best Halls and Recreation Grounds in the county. Without someone to organise the running of the premises it will cease to exist! So please help if you can. We desperately need a Treasurer, Secretary and in the near future a Chairman and Vice Chairman. Please help. Thank you.
