IMPORTANT INFORMATION : PC Brendan McKenna
has asked that we use the following system for contacting the SNT Rural South Team:
Tel: 01284 774100 - McKenna PC 608 or Horton PC 704 or PCSO Carroll-Beer
If you wish to report a crime in progress or require immediate assistance
please dial 999.
If you have any useful information as a Neighbourhood Watch member
please report it to PC Brendan McKenna on the above number and ask
to speak to him on airwaves. You can also report anything non-urgent
(anything that does not require immediate or emergency assistance).
You should be told whether or not he is on duty. If he is not and you want the message to be heard by someone (please bear in mind he may be on a two week vacation for instance), then please ask to speak to one of the other SNT Rural South Team Members and you should be put through to a PC who is on duty. If they are unable to take your call, you can leave a message on their airwaves which they should then receive.
If you leave a message for a PC on their airwaves radio, only they will pick it up.
PLEASE NOTE : CPO's are off duty for 2 days in a rota system. If you
leave a message it may be during the off duty period and so you will
not receive a response for a few days. PC Ruth Horton and PCSO Deborah Carroll-Beer
also cover Bury Rural South and will help if PC McKenna is unavailable. If you
wish to speak to an Officer and are put through to the radio answering
service, then you will need to call back and advise the call centre
of the problem who will put you through to an appropriate Officer
currently on duty.
Neighbourhood Watch would also like to ask that you let your local
Co-Ordinator know of any crime or suspicious activity in your area
so that we can alert the rest of the village if necessary. If the
crime is specific to you, we do not need details - just enough information
to hopefully stop it happening to anyone else. Many thanks.
WICKHAMBROOK NEIGHBOURHOOD
WATCH
The Neighbourhood Watch Scheme within Wickhambrook has various co-ordinators
throughout the village who try to raise awareness of the scheme and
keep "an eye out" for anything that looks suspicious and
needs reporting. The aim of the Neighbourhood Watch scheme is to
try to get everyone looking out for each other and then reporting
back to a co-ordinator who can liaise with the Police.
Wickhambrook Neighbourhood Watch Scheme wants to help the community
live in a safer and therefore more pleasant village and to give
the Police more eyes to see what is going on in and around Wickhambrook.
Our Community Police Officer is P.C.
Brendan McKenna and he will always be pleased to hear
from you should you wish to report anything, no matter how minor
you consider it to be.
P.C. McKenna has six other parishes to police and so you are invaluable
to him as an aid to keeping crime at bay.

Please join the scheme. There is no fee to pay and you are doing so
much good for the community. The more people we can get involved,
the greater the voice it gives us as a community in voicing our concerns
with the Police and we in return can expect a good amount of information
and feedback that our village is being well policed.
This website also aims to keep you informed of the latest "happenings"
in and around the village. If you know of a crime or can report something
to us quickly it can be placed on the website and may even stop other
crimes happening. See updates for further information.
If you have any concerns about anything suspicious, security issues
or any other aspect related to the Neighbourhood Watch then your co-ordinator
is there to help you!
Window stickers are also available which tell any criminals that we
are a community that cares and are looking out for each other. If
you would like a sticker then please contact us.
LATEST NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH GENERAL NEWS
Wickhambrook Neighbourhood Watch are holding their next Co ordinators meeting on the 5th of September at The Fox public house in Ousden. If anyone is interested in hearing about neighbourhood watch then please come along and join us. You will be very welcome. We are meeting at 6pm.
FUN QUIZ NIGHT
Please come along to our quiz night on the 22nd of September. It will be great fun and we are offering a fish
and chip supper along with some fun and challenging quiz questions. The teams will consist of 4 and if you don't have anyone to make a team up with, then just give us a call and we can pair you up with someone else. We will supply the cutlery but you will need to supply your drink (bring your own glasses/cups). If you're not a fish fan, then we have an alternative to offer but please mention this when you book your team. We would be VERY GRATEFUL if people could book as soon as possible as we have arrange the food and so cannot offer this as a 'turn up on the night' type of event. If you would like to book a place then call Mike on 01440 820082 or Maria on 01440 820222. It is at the WI Hall and starts at 7.30 for 8pm. Prizes for the
winning team. We are intending to use the funds we raise to assist with projects around the village which we hope will reduce crime problems. We will let you know more about this following our quiz night and next meeting.
DISTRACTION BURGLARIES/BOGUS CALLERS
In July we had a report of what appeared to be a bogus caller checking out diesel in the water system. Fortunately, this turned out to be a false alarm but was an extremely good example of how well neighbourhood watch can work. The workmen walked off when asked for identification and so the matter was reported to a neighbourhood watch co-ordinator. The Police were duly informed and they considered the situation to be suspicious and followed it up. The information was circulated amongst the neighbourhood watch team and should this have proved to be a genuine incident, there was good communication between us and the Police. Although in this instance, it was a false alarm, we would like to thank all those concerned for the prompt response.
Unfortunately, also some time between Friday 27th and Saturday 28th July, the skate park was subject to a substantial amount of damage. The two main ramps had various designs spray-painted onto them, which include rude images. If anyone has any information about this, then we would be pleased to hear from you.
GET IT DIRECT WITH POLICE DIRECT:
The Police Direct system has been reinstated and we cannot emphasise enough what a valuable messaging system resource this is to everyone who registers.
Please register and ask your friends and family too - it is a free service and Police Direct gives you:
- Latest information about local crime
- Advice on avoiding becoming a crime victim
- Information on police activity to make Suffolk even safer
The system is extremely flexible, allowing the police to send you appropriate messages, based on the details you provide when you register. Messages can be received by landline, text message to a mobile phone or by email to your computer. You can register up to three postcodes. So you could have your home, workplace and the address of a relative. This means that if the police receive information about burglars operating in an area where you have a vulnerable relative, we can send you a message, so that you can make any necessary arrangements to ensure their safety. To register, simply ring the Police Direct Team on 01473 613997 or log on to www.suffolk.police.uk and click on the link to 'Police Direct'. Alternatively, you can pick up a leaflet from your local Police Station or a neighbourhood watch co-ordinator.
