Wickhambrook Parish Clerk
Report for November and December 2003
We're on the Web
The Parish Council sponsored website went on-line at the beginning of December. The site, designed and developed by www.mdsign.co.uk, includes information about the Parish Council, minutes and agendas of meetings, contact details for the Councillors, etc. More broadly the site provides a lot of information about the village; the clubs and organisations; local businesses and services; community safety; etc. Links from the site give direct access to other sources of useful information. A very short introduction - there is enough on the site to fill the whole of this report and more - so have a look for yourself on www.wickhambrook.suffolk.gov.uk

Any comments or questions about the site can be addressed to the - there is a link on the site - or, if related specifically to the Parish Council, to the Clerk or Councillors.

Can you be seen in the dark?
Concern has been expressed at recent Parish Council meetings about people riding their bikes after dark without lights. To make the situation worse, the riders often had on dark clothing. And not just bike riders. Joggers, runners and walkers have all been "seen" in dark clothes with nothing to reflect light. Cars and other vehicles have lights so they will be able to see you wont they? Maybe, but maybe too late. If you are out after dark use lights, wear something white or wear reflective strips - you know it makes sense.

Recycling
Now we have the Blue Bins are the recycling containers in the MSC car park redundant? Obviously the bottle banks aren't as bottles should not be put in the blue bin. But what about the paper bank, paper can go in the blue bin. The income from the recycling containers in the MSC car park goes towards the running costs of the Hall so if the amount of paper deposited is reduced so will the income. Please continue to support the Hall by putting your paper in the paper bank, there will still be plenty of other stuff for you to put in your blue bin.

Clean up after your dog
It is an offence, punishable with a fine up to £1,000, to allow your dog to foul public areas, roads, verges and footpaths, including those around the fields. The Dog Wardens will take action if they observe offenders or if they receive reports. Dog Wardens have access to Vehicle Registration records so they can trace offenders even if they only have the number of their car. Picking up your dog's droppings isn't much fun but nor is scraping dog mess off of your shoes to say nothing of the health hazards, particularly to children. So please take it home with you, suitable bags are available from the Corner Stores at a very reasonable price. The nice thing about the bags is their bright colour so other people can see how responsible you are - you may even encourage them to follow your example.

Lock up your tools
You have almost certainly heard about the ever increasing thefts of tools from garden sheds and garages. What you may not have heard is how many of these thefts are from unlocked sheds and garages. Why make it easy for the thieves? If your garage, like many, is a tool store rather than a car store there is a good chance that you have built up the toolkit over a period of time and don't realise how much it cost altogether. You'll soon find out if they're nicked! The same goes for the garden tools in the shed. And don't assume the loss will be covered by your house contents insurance. Have a good look at the terms, many policies don't cover outlying buildings, including garden sheds and detached garages, or require them to be securely locked.

Your voice in our health
This is the title of an information booklet about Patient and Public Involvement in Health Forums (PPI Forums). To quote briefly from the booklet:

PPI Forums will play a vital role in making sure patients' and the public's views are heard and acted on by all those involved in making decisions about health.

The functions of PPI Forums have been laid down by law; this means they will have real power to make a difference. They will not just be 'talking shops'.

Anyone over 18 can apply to join a PPI Forum so if you think you might be interested or would simply like more information contact

The Teen Project
Lots of information elsewhere so just to say, if you would like more information about how the design and supplier were arrived at, the funds and how they were obtained, or anything else about the Project please contact the Clerk. If our experience on this project might help you with yours we will be only too happy to hear from you.
