The origins of the Plumbers Arms goes back to the 1700's
and until a few years back the boundary of Denston and Wickhambrook
ran through the property. In the old days it catered for horse drawn
travellers with accommodation for people, horses and carts. Up until
the twenties apparently it was referred to as the Plumbers Arms Commercial
Hotel. Writing in The Scene
in 1978 Jack Mortlock, one time landlord of The Cloak Inn, said that
someone in the village had a guest book of the Plumbers going back
to the early 1800's. |
The Plumbers Arms caters mainly for locals
and has many regulars, to the extent that "the five o'clock club"
has been unofficially formed. This has come about by people popping
into the pub on their way home from work for a quick "pint"
and a chat. With great cask ales including Marston’s Pedigree
and Adnams Bitter available at the moment, as well as other great
lagers, ciders and bottled drinks available from the well stocked
bar, you can see why they do.

We will be happy to welcome you to the Plumbers Arms, a pub for the
young, old and those in between, spirits will be high especially around
the pool table with gentle encouragement
from spectators, Spirits aren’t necessarily only kept behind
the bar at the Plumbers, the resident ghost makes an appearance from
time to time by throwing the odd picture off the wall. So pop and
in enjoy a pint, warm yourself by the roaring fire, have a game of
pool or simply take the time for a chat with the regulars. |

The Plumbers Arms, located alongside the main
road running from Bury St Edmunds to Haverhill, is owned by
Punch Pub Company and is one of two public houses in Wickhambrook,
the other being The
Greyhound. There used to be many other pubs in
the village and a history of Wickhambrook
Pubs Past and Present is well worth a read. |
