is known locally as THE TOP SHOP

We would like to thank the village for welcoming us. It’s a pleasure to be part of the community and to have the opportunity to serve you all.

Barbara has done a fantastic job running the shop and now it’s our turn to take on her good work and improve and extend the services offered by the shop.

Over the forth coming months we hope to introduce new ideas and develop the business and ultimately give our customers a better shopping experience.

I’m sure you will agree the opening hours need to be addressed and extended. The best way of doing this is by gradually extending the hours and noting the relative demand at the new opening and closing times. If demand is evident we can then review and extend further.

From 1st May the new opening hours will be as below:
Monday to Friday - 07.30 to 18.00
Saturday - 08.00 to 18.00
Sunday - 08.00 to noon

  1. The shop will no longer close for lunch
  2. Credit cards/debit cards will also be accepted from this date
  3. Post Office hours will remain unaffected

We will be taking a regular advert in the Wickhambrook Scene and will give updates on further changes in the months to come.
Hope to see you all soon!

A Fond Farewell to Barbara and Kerry

On Saturday 31st of March the village was able to celebrate with and congratulate Barbara and Kerry on their 35 years at Thorns corner stores.  The event was held in the M.S.C., which was filled to capacity, such is the popularity of this couple. Staff from Thorns Corner Stores, who organised the event as well as the collection for their retirement fund, would like to thank everyone who attended and/or contributed to the fund.  In total a massive £2,611.00 was collected allowing us to present them with a cheque for £2,000.00, a ceramic ornament on a commemorative plaque, and a cook book stand, so that Barbara can try out some of those recipes she has been collecting.  Also a bird feeding station for Kerry (he likes watching birds, even those of the feathered variety) and last but by no means least £400 worth of Euros for that well deserved holiday. Thank you everybody for helping to make this such a special evening for Barbara and Kerry. All cards and letters of appreciation have been mounted in a book of messages as a keepsake, along with photographs of the evening.

The 'Top Shop' as it is known in Wickhambrook, provides a huge and varied selection of goods for their customers. No matter what time of day you call into the shop, there is a warm welcome waiting for you from Barbara the Proprietor and her team of staff. The store not only offers a vital service for the locals but also for all of the surrounding villages that touch our border as Thorns Corner Stores is their closest village shop. One of the main attractions that they offer is the attended pumps petrol service, which is a facility that is not commonplace nowadays. There is also a large forecourt with ample parking.

We accept cash and cheques, credit cards and debit cards, although unfortunately we have to impose a minimum cheque value of £10 to cover the Bank charges we incur.
Newspapers - we provide an order service for collection of your daily and sunday papers. You can also order your favourite magazine through us (if they do it, we can get it).
One of our best known attributes is our 'fountain of knowledge'. Anyone lost in the village is sent up to the shop. Anyone wants to know anything about events in the village, they often ask us. We are happy to be a place where locals come to pass the time of day. We also have a noticeboard where you can find information from gardeners to website designers, cats lost and found, secondhand furniture and ponies for riding. We only charge 40p per week for a postcard size advert and there are not many people who manage to pop into the shop and can resist having a quick look at the noticeboard.
Please also consider adding an item to the website noticeboard or look up other local businesses on the Wickhambrook business website.
