CONSTRUCTION OF THE TEEN PROJECT
|
Development work on the Teen Project started
in February 2001 following requests from young people in the village
for a skate/BMX facility. Not everyone wants to ride a skateboard
or BMX so it was decided that the facility should cater for them as
well. |

The final design of the skatepark was arrived at after considerable
research, including visits to some twenty skateparks in various parts
of the country, and in consultation with future users of the Project.
Advice was also sought from experienced skatepark users and operators,
the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, the police and
specialist equipment suppliers.
The ‘all-sports’ area provides an all weather surface
with a goal and basketball ring and a tennis practice wall is planned.
As well as ball games, the area can be used by new skaters who want
to gain experience before venturing onto the skatepark, or who want
to practice skate-dance etc., and for other interests such as remote
control car racing. |
|
Funding for the Project, which is costing around £63,000 has
come from a number of sources, local fundraising events; individual,
club and business donations; Borough Council and County Councillor
grants; the Parish Council and the Lottery grant from Sport England.
A complete list of contributors will be available in due course.
Installation work on the Project, which is located on the village
recreation ground, started in mid-October and it is hoped that it
will be ready for use by early December. An official opening is planned
and will be advertised. |
