Village Social and Promotion Evening

Twenty eight different organisations, clubs and societies were represented at a Village Social Evening hosted by the Chairman and committee of the Memorial Social Centre recently. It was an opportunity for them to showcase themselves and it was a very busy evening for all as residents from Wickhambrook and the surrounding villages crowded into the hall to see what they had to offer. Some of the ladies talk to interested ladies and handed out leaflets of meetings and forthcoming events. The Institutes scrapbooks were available to look at photos of places in the village was very popular. Some clubs got new members on the night others like the W.I. will have to wait and see over the coming weeks what the outcome may be. Whatever the results it was an excellent effort to promote all the different options available for all ages and interests.

Special mention and grateful thanks were offered by Chairman Geoff Claydon for the outstanding efforts of Steve Taylor, Jim Field and Dorothy Anderson in putting the project together and getting it off the ground. It was a great success it is hoped its effect will continue to be seen in the months to come.

Quiz night

There was also a superb turn out for the Quiz Night, hosted by the women’s institute in their hall last Saturday. Many thanks to all who supported the event; it was good fun and not too taxing! The ploughman’s supper was a welcome break from racking brains for answers and was much enjoyed.

The eventual winners were “The Crofters”, Vicki Mayes and her team-mates with “Mum’s gone to Thailand” , The Fieldsend Family in second and “Brummie Bashers” consisting of John and Jo Stokes and Alan and Dorothy Lightley coming third
