September and October 2007 News

This year’s members meeting conducted with assurance by Thelma Farrow and Angela Cross introduced Elizabeth Jane, who has hats to hire for all those special occasions. As several members tried out a variety of beautifully styled hats everyone picked up tips on what to where, when and how it should be worn. There followed a light buffet skillfully prepared and attractively presented. Members were then paired up to design and make their own headwear using only newspaper and pins. Much laughter ensued  finally producing an array of different hats these were paraded for all to see with the winners being Sally Welsh and Jenny Stone. Grateful thanks to all of the members for organizing such a good evening.

At our October meeting it was such a pity there was not more members present to hear an amazing story of finding buried treasure from Cherry Fisher. With some members unwell and others at a village, Harvest Supper they missed an absorbing tale illustrated with silver coins from a large find declared eventually Treasure trove! It was wonderful to have a link with the past as the coins ranged from 1495 to 1645 in date and were thought to be a family’s savings across many generations possibly hidden during the Civil War period.
