After the business and news
items we settled down to listen to Michael Bentinck recount stories
collected from interviews with men and women who has children were
evacuated at the start of World War Two. These were a fascinating
mixture, some humourous, some scary and some very sad but in the hands
of Michael they lived once more and aroused many memories and emotions
in his listeners, especially for those of our membership who lived
through those times. Members had brought along mementos, photos, medals,
letters making it an excellent evening for all.
By the time you read this we shall have had a lovely sunny Carnival
Day (let's trust we do) and we will have poured tea all afternoon
and served delicious home baking. Many thanks if you supported us
on the day. Our August meeting on the 9th will be an American themed
evening and on the 13th September we have our Members Evening when
the committee take a rest and the members surprise us.
There is always a warm welcome for any ladies wishing to come and
see what we are like with a view to joining us feel free to come and
visit. |
